Chicago native Chris Medina rose to fame in 2011 after his brief but powerful participation in the world-renowned singing competition show, American Idol. With a touching backstory and a genuine will, Medina was instantly a fan favorite and became a household name overnight. His audition went viral, sending a shockwave through the United States and across the world.

Inspired by this journey, producer Rodney Jerkins, known professionally as Darkchild, along with songwriters Lauren Christy and Andre Lindal, beautifully crafted “What Are Words,” Medina’s debut single. The song, a somber ballad dedicated to his then-fiancé, broke into the Billboard Hot 100 chart, landing at the #69 spot. Despite not reaching the Top 10 in the US, Medina’s sincere and moving performance gave the song all it needed to hold the #1 spot in a handful of other countries for several months, even earning it multi-platinum status worldwide.

In 2012, Medina teamed up with Eccentric Records. Under the guidance of producer David Eriksen and hit songwriter Simon Climie, Medina released What Are Words, his first full-length album, which featured the repackaged #1 hit. Coupled with the hype from his massive debut, the storytelling and musical arrangements earned the album Gold status in Norway and Sweden.

Following a few minor releases from 2013 – 2015, Medina stepped away from the music industry, hoping the time away would not only help create an opportunity to rebrand, but also develop his songwriting. During this time off, Chris established his base in Los Angeles, where he spent the better part of three years toplining on tracks for other artists and working with the industry’s best. In 2018, Chris would again team up with Lauren Christy and Andre Lindal, along with rising star producer Fede Vindver, returning to the music industry with “Cut Me,” his best single since his debut. In a short time, “Cut Me” managed to gain traction in the sea of music, finding its way onto major playlists and into the hearts of Medina’s dedicated fans. Now based in Oslo, Norway, Chris plans to release more music and tour the world. With a newfound passion and clear sense of self, he continues his journey to not only make his mark in the music industry, but to also make music that continues to inspire his fans and broaden his audience.
